'The bargineers'
As some of you are aware from my story, I have not always managed my money very well. I wanted my son to do things differently. Here is something he has done as a result of using Money Cubby. He was telling me he wanted to make a lot of money. So he got together with Poppy (his surrogate grandfather) and they formed a little enterprise called 'The Bargineers' and each put in 50c to get things started. Firstly they bought from an op shop a little coloured glass bowl for $1.00 which they then sold for $6.00. They then bought a coloured glass plate for $6.00 and sold it for $12.00. They followed on buying some book ends with shelf underneath for $5.00 and sold it for a great profit of $60.00. Having more money at their disposal they found through a friend some Scandinavian chairs and a foot stool that they fixed up a bit and just sold on e-bay for a great sum of $1600.00. Now they have half of this money $800 (the friend shares in this profit) to reinvest in their next project. My son is learning some elementary maths and how to create a graph which demonstrates how money can double up by being creative.
This is a great example of a child learning to use money wisely and learning delayed gratification. In this case Roman found a way of making money that is proving to be lots of fun for both him and Poppy.
Dear DebIn December 2006 , I ordered two Money Cubbies from you to send to our two grandchildren one in Western Australia a beautiful little girl who is 3 months and our gorgeous Grandson who is nearly 3. Knowing that they were as young as they are was a great thing as we knew that we would be helping to put steps into place to secure their future financial thinking. "Well a couple of things have transpired from this that I was not expecting, to our delight the parents of both the children have adopted the information as a starting point to their financial thinking. They could not believe the information that you have in your booklets and how easy it was to transpose into their lives." They now have a much better plan and budget for themselves and are looking forward to sharing and facilitating financial learning and growth with their own children. So thank you for minding not only our future but our future generations. Warm Regards
Lionel Dowler (73 yrs) Re: Money Cubby and Minding My Future I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on developing such an important tool for children and teenagers to learn how to manage money and design their future. The Money Cubby concept is simple, effective and practical in relation to providing the day to day assistance younger people need so they can take responsibility for their spending behavior. Good money management habits are priceless and the Money Cubby goes a long way to providing the fundamentals needed as they become young adults. I would certainly recommend any family implementing the Money Cubby system into their home and giving their children a great start in life and sound money management principles. Yours Sincerely
11th January, 2007 Thornlands Qld They certainly didn't know how to teach me about money and so this I believe is why so many people are in debt and both parents have to work to afford to just own a home. This wonderful product is bright and stimulating, especially for my special needs son, Dalton (8) who was born at 24 weeks and is challenged generally with learning. He loves it because it is brightly coloured, big and easy to read. I purchased one for each of my 2 boys for xmas, 5 & 8 yrs old. They are excited about earning money and putting it in their money cubby and saving for things they want and feeling they can contribute to their favourite charity at the moment which is wildlife Warriors (god bless Steve), my kids love to help the Animals. I can certainly recommend it as a useful tool to teach all children about money, even' have found some useful hints for my husband and I. Gillian & Mick Jones We love the program, our son Lachlan is very keen to see where his money is coming from each week, & just how much he can earn by helping out. Whilst we do not put a monetary value on everything he does we did take advantage of the blank weekly job list from the Money Cubby book & used your example as a guideline.
Money Cubby is an exciting simple way to reward Lachlan for helping out with everyday chores as well as teaching him how to save his money. He looks forward to Sunday nights when we add up his earnings & take off his deductions for the week, we then divide the funds up accordingly into the 4 sections of the Money Box. In just 3 weeks Lachlan had saved up enough money to buy himself a Boogy Board. Lachlan has also started to keep a journal, we have encouraged him to keep this up by adding "Journal" to his weekly job list - this has helped him with his writing skills, given him something to look back on & added money to his weekly funds.
After being hesitant at first about the program & whether my son would understand the concept, we have found the Money Cubby Program very easy & lots of fun....I will be using the same program when my other 2 children are older.
Thanks Deb for a fantastic program!!
Cheers

"I asked my Dad if they had invented a money box that was hard to open so I could save more". I got a Money Cubby for Christmas and now I have started to fill it" Thomas R (aged 11)
If you would like to send us your child's testimonial and a photo we would love to publish it.

About
" I am comfortable as a self-funded retiree, not dependent on a Government pension and I appreciate the importance of managing my money. I have given a Money Cubby to each of my five grandsons (aged 2-11) so that they will learn to take control of their financial futures.
